Facebook has recently announced that it had unearthed a security flaw that compromised 50 million user accounts. Facebook has ordered an investigation to this security flaw and also law enforcement has also been informed about it.

The Facebook official statement, “On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 25, our engineering team discovered a security issue affecting almost 50 million accounts.” “We’re taking this incredibly seriously and wanted to let everyone know what’s happened and the immediate action we’ve taken to protect people’s security.”

The new flaw in the Facebook is from the way access tokens are handled.

What is Access tokens?

Access tokens are nothing but a digital key that allows the users to remain logged into Facebook accounts without re-entering the passwords every time. This flaw took place due to the “View As” feature, this feature allows the Facebook users to view the profile of users as you are browsing Facebook network as someone else.

Facebook says the bug found has been patched and decided to reset the access tokens of all 50 million Facebook accounts. All 50 million Facebook users are forcibly logged out from their Facebook accounts.

When the users log in back to the Facebook, Users will be greeted with a notification in their news feed with the details attack. Facebook has temporarily turned off the View As feature.

Facebook has been battling with the security issues one after another. Facebook was also involved in the Cambridge Analytica data scam earlier in 2018. In which around 90 Million users were affected.
